10+ years in the automotive industry, from OEM production launches to building electric vehicle platforms from the ground up.
I'm a Staff Engineer with 10+ years of experience supporting OEMs through NPI launches, test and validation, OTA campaign management, and complex diagnostic support.
I specialise in troubleshooting bumper-to-bumper vehicle issues — complex networking (Automotive ETH, CAN + FD, LIN), Infotainment, High Voltage and Charging — while improving diagnostic platforms and software logic. I leverage this deep vehicle knowledge to query and visualise terabytes of fleet data using SQL and Python, translating raw telemetry into actionable engineering insights for fleet-wide issues and driving root cause analysis with a software-first mindset.
I've supported European homologation efforts and conducted global testing trips in Alaska, Saudi Arabia, Norway, Kenya and the UAE, both on and off-road.

CurrentStaff Systems Integration Engineer – Emerging Markets
Also · ridealso.com
Also is an electric mobility company originally incubated within Rivian — designing small electric vehicles from the ground up to rethink urban transport. I lead test and development for the Emerging Markets E2W platform.
Beyond field work I own the system architecture layer: designing vehicle state machines and precondition logic, defining ride mode behaviour and the input chain through to hardware selection, and building out the diagnostic framework.

Senior Staff Service Engineer – EMEA
↑ from Staff Field Service Engineer – EU · Jan 2023
Rivian · EMEA Remote
Led all new vehicle exploration and deployment projects across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa — acting as the first technical presence on the ground to establish service readiness and testing capability in new markets. Defined T&D requirements including vehicle performance validation for charging, ADAS, and thermal systems. Developed understanding of local homologation pathways and service ecosystem requirements.
Analysed fleet-wide datasets from thousands of deployed vehicles to identify patterns, optimise reliability, and drive informed engineering decisions. Supported 3rd-party tooling, right-to-repair processes, and dealer integration. Provided hands-on technical support for major media events and VIP clients. Extensive international travel across diverse regions with limited on-site infrastructure.

Field Quality Engineer
↑ from Field Support Engineer · Oct 2020
Tesla · UK & Berlin Giga Factory
Identified new and trending product issues from service data and vehicle telemetry across various subsystems — Infotainment to low voltage. Global validation and testing of new firmware changes, vehicle specs, and new products across multiple climates. Conducted vehicle testing to support ongoing subsystem investigations and drove NPI, firmware, design, and hardware improvements from field quality experience.
Jul 2019 — Oct 2020
Prototype Technician
Oxbotica · Oxford
Supported software development of autonomous vehicles by designing and testing hardware solutions across computing, imaging, and laser systems. Bridged the gap between software engineers and design/build engineers. Maintained the autonomy stack, logged and interpreted image, radar, and laser data, documented wiring diagrams and system architecture, and handled circuit and PCB design.

Regional Technical Specialist
↑ from Vehicle Technician · Nov 2015
Tesla · UK & Ireland
Senior member of a 3-person team supporting all UK and Ireland service, sales, and delivery locations with complex technical issues, coaching, and customer satisfaction. Provided second-level escalation support via remote connections to vehicles over LTE/WiFi, assessed and discharged faulted HV battery packs, and developed technical material for technicians and virtual support teams.
Identified a trending issue in RHD vehicles and developed a fix that prevented a batch from becoming undeliverable at end of quarter. Created and rolled out escalation standards for the UK region — later adopted across EMEA.
Aug 2010 — Nov 2015
Dealer Expert Technician (Jeep Master Technician)
↑ from Apprentice Technician – Subaru · Aug 2010
Ian Grieve Ltd · Falkirk, Scotland
Diagnosed and repaired Subaru, Chrysler, Jeep, Isuzu, and Suzuki vehicles to manufacturer standards. Completed a full apprenticeship, progressing to Dealer Expert Technician and Jeep Master Technician. Supported other technicians in the workshop and maintained diagnostic equipment and technical manuals.

Outside of work
I grew up in Scotland and now live in Surrey with my girlfriend and our son. Being a dad is a big part of my life — busy, fun, and always keeping me on my toes.
When I get downtime I'm usually out with a camera. I shoot with a Sony A7RV, DJI Mini 4 Pro, or the Avata 2 — I enjoy the mix of creativity and tech, and the constant challenge of finding fresh perspectives. Test trips to places like Kenya and Norway mean I'm often in interesting spots with interesting light.
